TV Ramblings
Oct. 7th, 2011 07:18 pmThe Playboy Club
Sadly the show's been cancelled after the first episode. It could have been good, but a lot of people had issues with it based on the premise (Hugh Hefner's Playboy Club), the idea that it's misogynist, or general dislike of the show based on its premise more than the content. Last three episodes that were shot might be released on Hulu, according to rumor.
After Ellen has a nice article on the diversity in the show.
Why I liked it:
- Murder by stiletto in the first five minutes and the ensuing murder coverup that's been going on from it
- Bunny costumes
- Chicago Mobsters. Not quite up to Marcone's level but I've got a soft spot for storylines with them.
- Gay rights movement run by Sean Maher's character and his lesbian bunny wife
- Brenda. I love Brenda. She's hot, confidant, and self-assure. I want her to succeed and kick everyone's ass at everything and be more awesome. And that whole section about her house and her dreams. <3 I'd watch a show just about her, cause she's awesome.
- The theme of female empowerment running through the show. The women are the real movers and shakers in the series.
- Men in suits all over the place. So much fashion and well-dressed awesomeness.
- Francis and Alice. Why do I not get more Francis and Alice???
Warehouse 13 Season Finale
- I love the whole Artifact system. It's awesome and quirky and fun.
- Claudia rocks. She's maybe a step below Abby from NCIS in terms of BAMF females.
- Jinks rocks. He's my favorite. I love him so much.
- I love that they kept the dog.
- Tesla rifles. Seriously. So much yes.
- I cried. TV never makes me cry. Then I paused it and saw that there was another hour left to the finale and hoped for a magical Artifact fix.
- I want the HG Wells and Ianto Jones spinoff. Yes, I know it's not actually Ianto, but in my head fandom it totally is. There will be fic. Eventually. Maybe next round of Torchwood Big Bang.
- Aaaaarg, why did it stop there!!! >.>
Suburgatory and Awkward.
Awkward. just finished it's first season on MTV. Suburgatory just started (two episodes so far). Awkward. features a young girl that has an accident (I missed the first episode so not sure what that was) and everyone at school thinks she tried to kill herself. Suburgatory involves a family - teenage girl and single dad - that move from Manhattan to the suburbs (think Hamptons, pink plastic Stepford Mom suburbs) and try to fit in. Both have quirky female leads with amusing parents and awesome writing. Lots of great one-liners.
If you liked Easy A (the movie), you'll probably like both of these.
